Navaratri 2025 Chamber Concert by Suhana Fine Arts

On the occasion of Navarathiri, it is a practise for all the academies to offer through the knowledge they gained in the artistic field to the deities. Sahaana Fine Arts with the help of excellent local percussions which includes (Mirutagam, Ghatam, & Veena) organised a musical concert, featured classical music and arts festival is blending of pure classical music. Director NSCBICC Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan attended the concert as the Chief Guest and congratulated all the artists performed in this concert and appreciated the hard work done by the school to promote Indian Culture amongst the kids. Director also thanked Acharya Ratna Vidushi Srimathi Jayalakshmi Premkumar, Founder of Sahaana Fine Arts Seremban for the excellent work being done by Sahaana Fine Arts to promote and preserve the ancient arts of India, primarily its classical music in many instruments namely Veenai, Ghatam, Tabla, Mridangam, Dolak, Violin, Flute along with Classical Vocal.

Director NSCBICC Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan participated in Navarathiri Festival with cultural Bharatanatyam performances by 70 students of Kalpana Dance Theatre. The choreography was done by Ms. Shangita Namasivayam, a globally renowned dancer, teacher and choreographer who is an alumnus of Kalakshetra, India. The dance performances by the students were -Hay Gajanana, Nadesha Kauthavam, Ganesha Kauthavam, Sri Gananatha, Analekara, Omkarakarini, Aarabi Jathiswaram, Thillana. The show ended with semi classical Bollywood themed dance which garnered lot of appreciation from the audiences. Kalpana Dance Theatre is also Grant-In-Aid recipient of High Commission of India and has been actively taking part in all NSCBICC’s events.

Malaysian Association of Traditional Indian Medicine (PEPTIM representing the practitioners of Traditional Indian Medicine in Malaysia organised a gathering among senior and junior Indian Traditional Medicine Practitioners as a platform to discuss and discourse on the traditional medicine system through their programme called ‘Practitioners’ Exchange’. The objective of this event is to gather practitioners of Traditional Indian medicine in order to improve patients’ outcomes, enhance cross referral and bridge traditional wisdom with modern needs. This day-long event has many topics being discovered and among are the topics are Siddha Medicine in our lives by Vaidhya Balaranian Perumal; Vaidhya Canapathy Boyan presented on Varma Points for Uterine Health; Vaidhya Muhammad Sunil bin Abdullah spoke on Panchakarma Therapy and tts therapeutical effects; Vaidhya Sundaravadivu Dorai Raja spoke on benefits of herbal moisturising cream. Vaidhya S. Ganesh discussed on Netra Pariksha in Ayurveda Nidansthana: Clinical Insights; Vaidhya Vasanda Kumar Nadarajah talked on Type 2 Diabetes: managing the modern epidemic with traditional roots. Vaidhya Jamunaa’s topic was on Gut Health and Chronic Diseases; Vaidhya Premalatha Shanmugam’s topic: enhancing focus, attention, memory & behavior in children with kinesiology; Vaidhya GS Sumathi spoke on healing power of Shirodara. Vaidhya Muthalagy Muniandy disucssed on Siddha Varma techniques in managing various spectrum disorders in children; Vaidhya Manidar Nadeson on tooth reflexology to manage other physical symptoms; Vaidhya Murugan Selvaraj on Indian Acupressure – how to live a healthy life; Dr. Thayala Sridhar Pichaikaren discussed on healing synergy blending ancient wisdom & modern medicine: crossing borders, creating bridges in healing; Vaidhya Letchmy Ponnusamy spoke on Ayurvedic Therapy for stroke.
Viksit Bharat Run 2025

High Commission along with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan with diaspora partners organised the Viksit Bharat Run 2025. Union Minister of State for Ministry of Commerce & Industry and Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology Hon’ble Jitin Prasada graced the occasion as Chief Guest & flagged off the run with High Commissioner H. E. Shri B. N. Reddy and Guests of Honour YB P. Prabakaran (Member of Parliament for Batu) and YB Mr. R. Yuneswaran (Member of Parliament for Segamat). The run was held in Kuala Lumpur as a celebration of service, fitness, inclusivity, sustainability and India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Over 500 participants apart from volunteers took part in the 3.5 km Viksit Bharat Run organised under the theme “Run to Serve the Nation”. In his address, Hon. MoS highlighted the spirit and intent of the Viksit Bharat run, and also administered the Viksit Bharat Run and Aatmanirbhar Bharat pledge wherein participants committed to contribute towards India’s journey of becoming a developed nation by 2047. In his welcome remarks, the High Commissioner noted that the run also celebrates one year of India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Organised under Seva Pakhwada (17 Sept–2 Oct), the Viksit Bharat Run reflected India’s transformative progress under Prime Minister of India Hon’ble Narendra Modi’s leadership and drew an enthusiastic participation in Kuala Lumpur from Members of Parliament, Officials from local authority, Indian diaspora, business entities, professionals, students and friends of India. Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) supported the event by offering the venue. The event also featured planting of saplings at the venue by dignitaries under the Ek Ped Maa Naam initiative, promotion of Swadeshi Araku Coffee under ODOP initiative, registration for MyBharat platform and Yoga cooling down routine by TIC Yoga Ms. Dhanishta Samariya for participants who completed the run. Winners from Men’s and Women’s categories were fecilitated by High Commissioner and Hon’ble YB R. Yuneswaran. Director NSCBICC Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan and the staff participated too in this run.

Director NSCBICC Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan was invited to join the special Navarathiri Festival organised by Tanjai Kamalaa Indira Dance School (TKI) on the fifth day of the festival, devoted to Goddess Mahalakshhmi, TKI invited TIC Carnatic Vocal, Mr. Sreekumar Ramakrishnan also to perform Carnatic Vocal Kutcheri along with his student Mr. Ravi Maniam. Director NSCBICC congratulated TKI for its long-standing service to promotion of Bharathanatyam. This institute was awarded the ‘longest-operating training dance school in Malaysia’, listed in the Malaysia Book of Records in 2016. Director also expressed her gratitude to ‘Nattuva Thilagam’ Guru Srimathi Indira Manikam, Founder of Tanjai Kamalaa Indira Dance School for their constant suppport to the various activities of the Cultural Centre as well as the High Commission of India. TKI is a long-standing Grant-In-Aid recipient of HCI.

The event was presided over by YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Hon’ble Prime Minister of Malaysia. In his inaugural remarks, Prime Minister Anwar also emphasised the importance of ethnic and cultural diversity as a strength and identity of Malaysia, while encouraging Malaysians to learn, embrace and respect the cultures of other ethnic groups, which forms a crucial foundation for harmonious and prosperous society. Prime Minister of Malaysia joined by YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of MOTAC; YB Datuk Seri Dr. Zaliha binti Mustafa, Hon’ble Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories); YB Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, Hon’ble Deputy Minister of MOTAC; foreign ambassadors in Malaysia and over 500 distinguished guests. ‘Onam Nritya Utsav’, a vibrant Onam celebration organised by Padma Nrithyalaya Arts in collaboration with NSBICC lit up the Multipurpose Hall with grace and tradition. Ms. Subhashini Narayanan, Deputy High Commissioner welcomed the gathering and officiated the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Subhashini Narayanan highlighted the rich traditions and performing arts of Kerala and thanked the contributions of Ms. Vinosree Shangkar to promotion of Indian culture and training of students in Indian dance forms through Padma Nrithyalaya Arts. The students from Padma Nrithyalaya Arts showcased diverse dance styles like Cholkettu, Kerala Nrityam, Kaikottikali, The Story of King Mahabali, Naadan Paattu – Aalayaal Thara Venam, Kurumbarattam (Tribal Dance), Ashtapadi – Manjuthara, concluding with Thillana – Dhanashree, celebrating Kerala’s rich cultural tapestry. These dances were newly introduced for the knowledge of the public. The cultural programme on the occasion of the 17th annual Shirdi Sai Baba Chariot Festival in Klang was held for 9 days and it culminated in the Chariot Procession on September 14, 2025. TIC Carnatic Vocal, Mr. Sreekumar Ramakrishnan performed in this festival along with his student Mr. Ravi Maniam on Vocal; Ananya Kannan on Harmonium; Brahmashri JJ Arvind Sharma and Mr. Muthu Raman on Mridangam. The event not only promoted spiritual aspects but also included various devotional activities and cultural programmes to classical arts amongst the public. A variety of cultural programmes, including Indian classical dance and music, were showcased by the youth and community members.

Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan participated as Guest of Honour in the first show of the 4 series of Panggung Seni Tradisional (PST) 2025, the Indian Classical Dance – ‘Parampara’ – Legacy of Guru Debaprasad Das. The performance was done under the artistic direction of Nrutyacharya Guru Shri Lawrence Sackris of Angika Fine Arts and with participation by Vehaara Arts along with the well-known international Odissi dancers from India Debasish Pattnaik and Gokulsree. The production paid homage to the legendary Guru Debaprasad Das, a trailblazer of the Odissi dance tradition whose contributions have shaped generations of classical Indian dancers. Through rhythm, expressive movement and profound storytelling, Parampara brought to life the deep-rooted lineage of the guru-shishya tradition. Panggung Seni Tradisional (Traditional Arts Theatre – PST) 2025 is a series of cultural arts performances held throughout 2025 by the National Department of Culture and Arts (JKKN). Among the performances that have took place were the Cantonese Chinese Opera ‘Irama Lingnan’ in June 2025, ‘Temasya Tari Melayu: Lama Dalam Baharu’ in July 2025 and the ‘Pematasan Teater Jikey Langkawi’ performance in September 2025. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Encik Jasmi Rasit, Director (Policy & Planning Division), JKKN and Puan Hidayatul Ein binti Mohamad Azmi, Director of the National Department of Culture and Arts, Kuala Lumpur.

During this meeting, AddA offered exposure to 4 women entrepreneurs, provided them spot to speak, pitch their business and invite collaborations. Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan held productive meetings with Encik Hisham bin Mat Husien, Director, National Department for Culture and Arts, Perak followed by a meeting with Puan. Nuruljaswa binti Abdul Hamid, Divisional Secretary of Management Services Division, Perak State, Encik Azuan Rizal of Kumpulan Selendang Perak and Mr. Olanathan from Bahagian Khidmat Pengurusan, Perak State to explore pathways for cultural collaboration and artistic exchange between JKKN Perak with NSCBICC. They discussed possibilities of the artists from Perak to participate in NSCBICC’s outreach programmes and train with the Indian Cultural Centre deputed Teachers. Further, both JKKN and Perak State were invited to send artists to participate in ICCR sponsored International Festivals in the upcoming years. This will help to promote multi-layered cultural exchanges between the people of India and Malaysia. This is part of NSCBICC’s collaborations with local agencies under the Government of Malaysia, as the Government of Malaysia has signed a Programme on Co-operation with the Government of the Republic of India last year which seeks to develop and enhance bilateral relations between our two countries through co-operation in the field of culture, arts and heritage.

NSCBICC and High Commission of India in collaboration with Greentown Indian Cultural Society (GICS), Ipoh and Majlis Kebudayaan Negeri organised ‘AMMA’ a Carnatic Vocal recital by Mr. Sreekumar Ramakrishnan, TIC – Carnatic Vocal, NSCBICC. He was accompanied by Mr. Subain Singam on Thavil, Brahmasri JJ Prathap Sharma on Mridangam, Brahmasri JJ Aravind Sharma on Kanjira, Mr. Ramu on multi percussion, Mr. Richard Dhas on percussion, Mr. Rajamanikkam on Tabla, Mr Pervind Chandran on Violin and Mr. Saravanan on Nadaswaram. The event was attended by YB Sasha Bavani, Member of the State Legislative Assembly for the constituency of Malim Nawar, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan Director NSCBICC along with members of management committee of GICS and an audience of over 250 persons. This special concert was organised as a precursor for the Navratri Festival.

‘Qala Utsav’ Exhibition of Paintings by Malaysian and Indian Artists

NSCBICC organised Qala Utsav:Inauguration of Exhibition of Paintings by Malaysian and Indian Artists. This unique week-long art festival showcased the works of fourteen prominent artists from India and Malaysia, reflecting a dynamic fusion of traditional and contemporary styles. This painting exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Ts. Dr. Khairul Azril Ismail, Deputy Rector of Academic Affairs, ASWARA along with High Commissioner H. E. B. N. Reddy and Ambassador Dato’ Mohd. Yusof Ahmad, former Director-General, National Visual Arts Gallery of Malaysia. High Commissioner welcomed the gathering and laud the efforts taken by NSCBICC in arranging this exhibition with the support of Ms. Anushree Srivastava. He congratulated Ms. Anushree on the conceptualization of this idea to collaborate the works of both India and Malaysia’s artists. Since August is the month of Independence Days for both countries, the exhibition suited the agenda of artistic collaboration between painting artistes of India and Malaysia, portraying the skills & styles of each artist as well as promotion of painting exhibitions of budding and established painters of India and Malaysia.
Chief Guest Prof. Ts. Dr. Khairul Azril Ismail acknowledged the artists for transcribing the knowledge of arts into the canvas and he also highlighted the connection of India – Malaysia in the field of Arts. Dato’ Mohd. Yusof Ahmad in his Special Address mentioned that the works he looked at during his career life through arts and how the art can leverage ones’ life especially that of diplomats.
Internationally renowned Bharatanatyam and Sattriya dance artist and choreographer Padmashri Indira PP Bora’s disciples from the Padmashree Indira PP Bora’s Kalabhumi Dance Group performed Bihu and Bharatanatyam dance.
HC also felicitated Master Nitya Ramani, 13 years old Indian who had successfully trekked to the Everest Base Camp at an altitude of over 17,500 feet. The fourteen artists who took part in this exhibition are Ms. Anushree Srivastava, Ms. Priti Dhongadi, Ms. Ravinder Kaur, Mr. Hamid Mohamed, Ms. Deepa Rajendra Okade, Mr. Abhishek Yadav, Ms. Hanan Mikhae, Ms. Neha R Nambiar, Mr. George Daniel, Mr. Siva Nair, Ms. Weng Wah Lum, Ms. Tulika Prakash, Mr. Eng-Seong-Lim and Ms. Shazlin Jalil.

Rangabhyasa is a quarterly programme designed to provide platform for budding artistes especially for the students of NSCBICC and other talented individuals and for promoting Indian classical performing arts. For this edition, NSCBICC featured its student Ms. Jashvina Mahendran, a dedicated Carnatic music student who was accompanied by his Guru Mr. Sreekumar Ramakrishnan (TIC Carnatic Vocal NSCBICC) on Mridangam, besides an ensemble of accomplished musicians: Shangita Suvarna on Violin, Naveen Jayapalan on Ganjira and percussion, Zinesh on Tabla and Rajachelvam on Keyboard offered steadfast support. The first programme of the Rangabhyasa series was hosted on May 24, 2024 in conjunction with World Culture Day and Buddha Purnima and featured the performance of Pradyumna Bhat, alumnus of NSCBICC followed by Saanvi Naveen Kana on July 13, Saisree Varma PK on October 05, Shanthossh Rao Gangatharan & Manossh Rao Gangatharan on November 23, 2024 and Mr. Ravi Maniam on April 26, 2025. The evening was enjoyed by around 50 Carnatic music enthusiasts. Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan welcomed the gathering and congratulated the student and her parents.

NSCBICC in partnership with PR Events and Aakaar Foundation organised ‘Swarajya’, a special music and dance concert to commemorate India’s 79th Independence Day celebration on 23 August 2025 at the Multipurpose Hall, NSCBICC. The Senior Directors of The Temple of Fine Arts Smt. Radha Gopal Shetty, Smt. Vatsala Sivadas and Smt. Thavamalar Gunaratnam participated as the chief guests.
The programme brought together Indian and Malaysian artists to celebrate the cultural richness and heritage of India through the universal language of music and dance. The production of the concert highlighted the from the dawn of struggles before independence to the resplendent march of India today, preparing towards vision for a #ViksitBharat2047, emphasising that India’s progress is built on self-reliance, innovation, and citizen empowerment.
Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan welcomed the gathering and highlighted various events and activities being organised at the cultural centre, promoting the Indian cultural linkages and ties. Deputy High Commissioner @hcikl, Ms. Shubashini Narayanan in her special remarks shared the various celebrations at NSCBICC to mark the month of independence for India besides sharing the joy with Malaysia’s independence as well. She also pointed out how music and dance played a significant role in the Indian freedom movement, both as a form of resistance and as a tool for unity and cultural revival. Smt. Thavamalar Gunaratnam who delivered her inaugural address congratulated NSCBICC for nurturing music and dance through Independence Day celebrations, besides organising this vibrant event which not only showcases the rich cultural heritage of India and Malaysia.
With the spirit of patriotism, the audiences were entertained with captivating performances by renowned artists including Ms. Preetha Prasad, Ms. Vani Nethier, Ms. Reshmee Roy, Mr. Ramakrishnan, Mr. Sreekumar Ramakrishnan (Teacher of Indian Culture – Carnatic Vocal, NSCBICC) and Ms. Priyadarshini Sanyal (Teacher of Indian Culture – Kathak, NSCBICC). Alongside them, several upcoming talents such as Mr. Selvendrrah Krishnan, Ms. Veena Akilandeswari and others showcased their art forms, earning high appreciation from the audience. The selection of songs of various languages and classical Indian dances like Kathak, Garba, Bharatanatyam and Odissi portrayed the tapestry of tradition and style.
More than 150 guests attended the event including Padma Shri Datuk Ramli Ibrahim, Chairman Sutra Foundation; Associate Professor Dr. Zulkifli Ab Rashid, Deputy Rector (Students Affairs and Alumni) ASWARA; diplomats from Embassy of Philippines, prominent members of the Indian community in Malaysia, along with leaders of community and cultural organisations and representatives from business and media.

High Commission together with NSCBICC Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre, Kuala Lumpur and in collaboration with Bharat Club Kuala Lumpur, organized a special cultural event ‘Celebrating India-ASEAN Cultural Harmony’, a musical and dance programme, on the occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day and also to mark Malaysia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN for the current year. The special event was held under the Promotion of Cultural Ties with Diaspora (PCTD) scheme of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. H.E. YB Tuan M. Kulasegaran, Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department (Law & Institutional Reform), graced the event as the Chief Guest of Honour. Ambassador Bala Chandran, Deputy Secretary General (Multilateral Affairs), Ministry of Foreign Affairs also joined the event.
High Commissioner H. E. Mr. B. N. Reddy welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of cultural connections and harmony between India and Malaysia and the wider ASEAN region. Highlighted that India- ASEAN as well as India-Malaysia share a comprehensive strategic partnership and recounted the positive trajectory of India’s relations with the ASEAN. Under Malaysia’s chair of the ASEAN, this special event highlights the deeply cherished bonds between India and Malaysia as well as other countries in South east Asia region. HC thanked the Indian diaspora in Malaysia for promoting and preserving Indian culture and traditions. He also thanked Bharat Club Kuala Lumpur for serving as a cultural bridge between Indian professionals in Malaysia and Malaysians over the last 50 years.
Deputy Minister YB M. Kulasegaran congratulated High Commission for organizing this vibrant event, which not only showcases the rich cultural heritage of India but also highlights the shared traditions and deep-rooted civilizational ties between India and ASEAN countries. At this special cultural event ‘Celebrating India-ASEAN Cultural Harmony’ organized by High Commission, Bharat Club members performed Joget Dance of Malaysia; Coconut Dance and Bamboo Dance which are popular in several countries in the ASEAN region; a dance drama with a dramatic retelling of a timeless tale from the epic Ramayana, and a vibrant costume show from various States in India celebrating its rich diversity through a tapestry of tradition and style. More than 600 guests attended the event, including diplomatic community from member States of ASEAN, senior officials from the Government of Malaysia, prominent members of the Indian community in Malaysia, and members of Bharat Club Kuala Lumpur, along with leaders of community and cultural organizations, and representatives from business and media.

The 79th India Independence Day celebrations began at India House as High Commissioner H. E. Mr. B. N. Reddy hoisted the tricolour and read out the excerpts from the address of Hon’ble President of India. Over 800 Indian nationals, including school children and members of the vibrant Indian community, joined the celebrations hosted by the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur, with great zeal and enthusiasm. The audience were captivated by the inspiring performances of patriotic songs and dance presentations by students from Vikas International School, Global Indian International School and Sprout Academy, alongside the talented members of Bharat Club Malaysia and Tamil Expats Malaysia. NRI Women entrepreneurs from Malaysia showcased their innovative and entrepreneurial spirit through their stalls at the India House. The participating women entrepreneurs included Ms. Madhu Verma (handmade crafts), Ms. Supriya Devakaran Narayanan (clothing), Ms. Vandana (home caterer), Ms. Shakiba Suboor (home caterer), Ms. Janani Ramanan (Indian 3D mural paintings and statues), Ms. Srimayee Sen Sarma (personalized tote bags and T-shirts), Ms. Anushya Deva Dhas (home baker), Ms. Ashwini Pandey (mandala art) and Ms. Geetika Singhal (mandala art) celebrating the legacy and spirit of Tricolor, Har Ghar Tiranga digital exhibition and a selfie booth was also set up at the India House.

The talk was delivered by Dr. Nagappan Arumugam, a renowned scholar in Saiva Siddhantha and Tamil Bhakti literature. The objective of the programme was to explore the role of the Tamil language and literature in shaping community identity, values, and progress. Participants were including youth, cultural enthusiasts, academics and members of the Indian community joined and engaged with the talk.

NSCBICC resumed the long-paused Kathak classes at the Centre in July this year. The new Kathak Teacher of Indian Culture (TIC), Ms. Priyadarshini Sanyal conducted Kathak Workshop for all level students. In this workshop, she showed the students on the steps involving feet movement, hand flow, body and face movements and much more. The 1st Malaysia Natheswaram and Thavil Grand Festival 2025 along with fundraising dinner was attended by over 500 guests, marking the first of its kind event in Malaysia dedicated solely to the grandeur of Nadaswaram and Thavil, iconic instruments of Tamil culture. High Commission and NSCBICC have been closely associated with this Institution since its inception and its first graduation ceremony were held at NSCBICC in 2023.The key highlight of the 2025 festival was the presentation of special recognition awards to six distinguished artists for their longstanding contributions to the art form. Additionally, Makkal kalainjar Kavi Maran was honoured for his cultural efforts. The festival featured dynamic performances of Nadaswaram and Thavil, accompanied by classical dance and a specially curated fusion concert consisting of Chinese and Malay performers playing their traditional instruments in addition to Natheswaram and Thavil. The Organising Chairman, Mr. A. Ganesan in his remarks shared the Academy’s ambitious plan to host the festival on a global scale within the next three years. He also emphasised the Academy’s ongoing efforts to enhance training opportunities for aspiring musicians and to preserve the rich heritage of Tamil instrumental music. Event was also attended by Mr. Thirunachiyappan, President of Chennai Tamil Isai Sangam. The Inauguration of 3rd PIO Day (3rd Apravasi Diwas), organised by GOPIO International and GOPIO Malaysia in partnership with High Commission, NSCBICC, local diaspora organisations, NGOs and schools in Malaysia is a unique tribute to the contributions of PIOs in Malaysia and their forefathers, while also promoting their connect with India through arts, culture, entrepreneurship and education. H. E. Shri Pabitra Margherita, Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs & Textiles, India and YB Senator Saraswathy Kandasami, Hon’ble Deputy Minister of Unity of Malaysia jointly inaugurated the 3rd PIO Day in Kuala Lumpur. The event was attended by over 300 participants including members of the PIO academic forum, prominent members of the Indian community, cultural and business associations in Malaysia, members of media, and officials from High Commission and NSCBICC. Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble MoS lauded the prominent role of Indian diaspora in building bridges between India and the country which is their home Malaysia. Highlighted the significance and rich heritage of Indian diaspora in Malaysia. He congratulated GOPIO Malaysia and GOPIO International for their efforts in promoting the rich culture and heritage of India among the PIOs in Malaysia. During the inauguration, Hon’ble MoS and YB Saraswathy Kandasami jointly launched the Global Indian Youth Connect (GIYC) platform, that was established by GOPIO International to unite youth of Indian-origin from diverse backgrounds across the globe. Cultural performances were organized by various Malaysian cultural organizations during the inaugural session. Hon’ble MoS also met the members of the PIO Academic Forum and discussed on the proceedings of the Academic Conference. He commended the members of the academia for providing valuable insights into the importance of preserving and disseminating the rich history of PIOs in Malaysia. He also visited an exhibition depicting the PIO history and heritage in Malaysia, which also covered the silent footprints of the PIOs in Malaysia across several generations from 1780s. As part of the PIO day inauguration, World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) Bazaar promotional stall was set up with focus on India’s position as a rising global powerhouse of media and entertainment and as a global hub for film production, digital content, gaming, fashion, music and live concerts. It also highlighted how WAVES 2025 set a benchmark as a global platform that seamlessly brought together creativity, commerce, and collaboration, and to pave way for India’s creative economy. The inaugural edition of WAVES was held in Mumbai in May 2025.

The panel discussions held as part of the conference covered topics such as ‘Preserving PIO Heritage & Identity in an Uncertain World’; ‘Malaysia–India Relations: Governments & People to People Relations’; ‘Expanding the PIO Footprint in Global Business’ and ‘The Next 15 Years: Challenges Facing Malaysian PIOs’. Prominent Members of the Academia and Scholars joined the panel discussions. Aashadi Ekadashi Waari, a celebration gathering for children, featuring vibrant cultural performances and traditional dance presentations was organized by the Maharashtra Mandal Malaysia at NSCBICC. Warkari tradition – a devotional movement focused on worshipping Lord Vitthal of Pandharpur was highlighted during this occasion to promote spiritual discipline and the teachings of saints. The Maharashtra Mandal Malaysia (MMM)’s kids performed beautiful performances such as Ganesh Vandana, Shlok Recitation, Cultural Dances & group singing, talks about importance of Waari, Skit on saints. Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan participated as Chief Guest and congratulated the efforts taken by MMM in nurturing the importance of sustaining and inheriting the tradition from the young age. About 80 MMM members participated in this event.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Malaysian Association of Traditional Indian Medicine or also known as PEPTIM was held at NSCBICC. About 70 members of PEPTIM participated in this meeting. During this meeting, few participants were those who have been accredited by the Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM) Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia. These accredited license holders may declared as ‘Vaithiyar’. PEPTIM plays vital roles with Mission in promotes and create awareness on Indian Traditional Medicine in Malaysia. Vaithiar Sivakkumaran Tirumalai was re-elected as the President of PETIM for this term.

A collective occasion of Valedictory Ceremony for Yoga Teacher Training Course (YTTC), Advanced Yoga Training Course (AYTC), Appreciation for IDY 2025 Volunteers and Farewell for TIC Yoga, NSCBICC was celebrated. NSCBICC has successfully conducted two special courses namely, 9th batch of Yoga Teacher Training Course (YTTC) and Advanced Yoga Training Course (AYTC). The YTTC course commenced on March 8, 2025 lasting for a duration of 12 weeks and the AYTC commenced in July 2024 and went on till June 2025. In all, 54 Yoga enthusiasts were felicitated for their dedication and hard work in promoting Yoga. From the 54 participants, 19 participants were from YTTC, 15 from AYTC and 20 were the volunteers of 11th International Day of Yoga 2025 celebrated at Batu Caves complex on June 21, 2025. Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan in her Welcome Address expressed her gratitude for the support and participation of the members in all the courses as well as for the support of the community for the various events. Deputy High Commissioner, Ms. Subashini Narayanan who attended as the Chief Guest congratulated and applauded the participants as Yoga ambassadors. Mr. Manoj Kaimal who was the external examiner for YTTC shared his views on the course and encouraged the participants to take the role of Yoga tutors. The participants representing each course and one IDY volunteer shared their invaluable experiences in this event. Moreover, participants of Yog Bandhan- Mr. Manisekaran Ponnusamy and Ms. Sinthamani Arunasalam- shared snippets of their visit to India in the programme. The event concluded with all bidding farewell to Teacher of Indian Culture (Yoga), NSCBICC, Mr. Sandeep Shaligram Wankhad. The event was attended by patron organisations who partner regularly with High Commission and NSCBICC in organising Yoga events.

As part of IDY2025, High Commission & NSCBICC in partnership with Bihar Cultural Association organised another Yoga outreach event. A special Yoga session and demonstration was conducted by Mr. Sandeep Wankhade (Teacher of Indian Culture – Yoga, NSCBICC) on the occasion, which was attended by around 55 members of the organisation. This event will be part of post 25 IDY activities.
Seminar on Evidence-Based Practice of Traditional Indian Medicine

Traditional and Complementary Medicine Division, Ministry of Health, Malaysia in collaboration with Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, High Commission and NSCBICC organised a two-day Seminar on Evidence-Based Practice of Traditional Indian Medicine. High Commissioner B.N. Reddy in his opening address highlighted India – Malaysia collaboration in Traditional Indian Medicine over the last decade. He welcomed three expert speakers deputed by Ministry of Ayush -covering Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani, who are participating in the Seminar. He emphasized the significance of AYUSH integration with global health systems through adoption of ICD-11 TM2 Module, deliberations to finalize which had earlier taken place in Malaysia at the National Institute of Health. He also outlined the recent milestones such as MoUs with Malaysia on cooperation in the field of Traditional Systems of Medicine signed, India’s role as partner country in 10th INTRACOM on TCM, and the operationalization of Ayurveda Chair at Universiti Tunku Abdur Rahman (UTAR) in Perak, Malaysia. Dato’ Indera Dr. Nor Azimi binti Yunus, Deputy Director General, KKM in her officiating speech appreciated the efforts by the Ministry of Ayush in nominating the three expert speakers -covering Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani, for the Seminar and welcomed such collaborations between India – Malaysia in the field of Traditional Systems of Medicine. The two-day seminar includes lectures by experts from the Ministry of Ayush on topics related to Traditional Indian Medicine Systems such as Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani.

In conjunction with 11th International Day of Yoga 2025, Brahma Kumaris Foundation Malaysia in partnership with High Commission, NSCBICC and Sega Intercontinental Yoga Alliance organised a Yoga event. High Commissioner H. E. Shri B. N. Reddy joined the event as Chief Guest and delivered the opening address. Raja Yogini Didi Meera Nagananda, Advisor Brahma Kumaris Foundation delivered a keynote address and also gave a special talk on “The Science of Raja Yoga Meditation: One Earth, One Health, One World Family”, which was attended by over 250 participants. A guided Yoga session and pranayama with expert instructor Yoga master Segar guru was held as part of the event. A free health screening and iridology complimentary health check-up was organised as part of the celebrations by the Brahma Kumari Foundation Malaysia.
11th International Day of Yoga 2025

High Commission of India together with NSCBICC organised the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) at the iconic Batu Caves Complex to commemorate the unifying and healing power of Yoga. This year’s IDY is themed as “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” reflecting on how Yoga integrates humanity with the nature. YBhg. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, Secretary General, Ministry of Youth & Sports joined the event as the chief guest on the occasion of the 10th anniversary International Day of Yoga. In his special address Dato’ Dr. Nagulendran, Secretary General, said that the theme for this year’s IDY2025 “Yoga for One World, One Health” is quite apt for the current day demands on people across the world to balance healthy living with mental well-being. He also shared that Yoga has been recognised by Government of Malaysia as a sport under an Act of Parliament.
He commended the role of High Commission and NSCBICC in promoting yoga among schools, universities and among all walks of life. High Commissioner H. E. Shri B. N. Reddy welcomed Yoga enthusiasts and elaborated the importance of Yoga in the context of this year’s theme with a focus on the transformational power of yoga to enhance the well-being of individuals and its contribution to a healthier society. HC highlighting Yoga’s wider role, referred to Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi’s quote – “Yoga will change the way you live your life”. Also mentioned that Hon’ble Narendra Modi extended an inspiring appeal to people across the globe to embrace yoga for holistic well-being and vibrant living.
About 1200 Yoga enthusiasts joined the IDY2025 event including High Commissioners, Ambassadors and members of diplomatic corps, senior Government officials, NGOs, members of various community, cultural and yoga associations, members of Indian diaspora, and school children as well as people from all walks and ages. 50 Indian Armed Forces Officers and crew from Indian Naval Ship (INS) Karmuk, which is visiting Malaysia to commemorate 11th International Day of Yoga, also joined the Yoga Session at Batu Caves.

Indian Naval Ship (INS) Karmuk in Malaysia, to Participate in 11th International Day of Yoga IDY2025 celebrations to commemorate 11th International Day of Yoga, Indian Navy Ship (INS) Karmuk arrived at Port Klang, Malaysia and was warmly welcomed by the Royal Malaysian Navy. With the theme, ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’, INS Karmuk celebrated IDY2025 in Malaysia by conducting Yoga Sessions for Royal Malaysian Navy personnel, School Students, lovers of yoga and High Commission officials on 20 June, 2025. INS Karmuk organised this meticulously planned Yoga session at Port Klang Cruise Terminal Jetty. Attended by over 100 personnel from the Royal Malaysian Navy, students from Global Indian International School, Kuala Lumpur and officials from the High Commission and NSCBICC. Event symbolised the essence and significance of Yoga for body, mind & soul. The session embodied Yoga’s universal message of well-being, harmony, and inner peace through a series of standing and seated asanas, concluding with a wholesome yogic meal. The Navy personnel also joined 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations in Malaysia at Batu Caves on 21st June 2025.

Yoga Event registered for the Malaysian Book of Records – 35,000 Malaysian students joined Yoga on the eve of IDY2025. Vethathiri Institute of Consciousness and National Tamil Primary School Headmasters’ Council partnered High Commission & NSCBICC in organising a Yoga event at the Vethathiri Institute, Negeri Sembilan. The Yoga session engaged 35,000 students from 480 Tamil primary schools across Malaysia with physical & virtual presence- and got registered in the Malaysian Book of Records as the largest school children’s Yoga gathering for idy2025 International Day of Yoga celebrations. Mr. Rajesh H Maniyil, First Secretary, represented High Commission at the event. The participants were awarded with certificates on the occasion. High Commission congratulates Vethathiri Institute of Consciousness for this remarkable achievement.

A Yoga session was held which was attended by over 200 school children. Ms. Rocheus Sukanya, Counsellor, High Commission joined the event and distributed certificates to all participants. As an effort to promote Yoga among the school children, Yoga mats were provided by High Commission to the Yoga Club of SJK (T) school Klang.

In conjunction with the 10th Anniversary of International Day of Yoga, Ministry of AYUSH organised ‘Yog Bandhan’- Bond of Yoga, a signature event wherein eminent Yoga experts / high-profile Yoga practitioners from partner countries were invited for a 6-day visit to India, which include visits to Yoga related institutes as well as participated in the main IDY event led by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 21st June 2025. This significant event which recognises and encourages such Yoga enthusiasts globally as well as leverage them to project and publicise the IDY event globally. Representing Malaysia, 2 Yoga practitioners participated in this event The event was concluded with an inspiring wave of global unity through Yoga. Malaysian Yoga experts Mr. Manisekaran Ponnusamy and Ms. Sinthamani Arunasalam attended the event at Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY).

The session was aimed to create a positive classroom atmosphere and promote social-emotional learning and to create awareness of yoga among the young learners.

112th International Hindi Conference in Malaysia 2025

Bhasha Sahodari Hindi Trust in partnership with High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur and NSCBICC organised the 12th International Hindi Conference in Malaysia. High Commissioner H. E. Shri B. N. Reddy, who participated in the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest, congratulated the organising committee for taking the effort in promoting Hindi language abroad. High Commissioner in his remarks mentioned the efforts made by High Commission and NSCBICC in promoting and propagating the language including organising World Hindi Day on January 10, Hindi Diwas on September 14 and a special poetry conference – “Shared Imaginations: Fragrance of Hindi poetry in Malaysia”.
Dr. Ashok Pandya, the Member of Editorial Board of Bhasha Sahodari Magazine delivered his welcome address. He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to NSCBICC for granting the venue and its utmost support in making this event a success. In this 2-day conference, experts, researchers and scholars made presentations on Hindi language. Further, the delegates conducted interaction sessions including poetry recitals etc. On the first day, the conference commenced with lighting up of lamp followed by paper presentation session on Hindi language promotion, propagation and development on National and International Level. In this paper presentation, the delegates were given chance to present their ideas and works done towards the same course and 29 speakers made their presentation. On the second day of the conference, the same format was followed. There were skit performances, poetry recitals and Hindi songs to embrace the concept of Hindi promotion in different forms.
The highlight of the event was the release of Bhasha Sahodari Patrika, the annual magazine published by the trust. Through this conference, the importance of Hindi was highlighted and it provided a platform for those working towards its development. Additionally, the significant role in the propagation of Hindi efforts to encourage the use of the language has been showcased so as to increase awareness and respect for Hindi language and Indian culture among people.
Interaction with Indian Community by All-Party Parliamentary Delegation to Malaysia

All-Party Parliamentary Delegation, led by Hon’ble MP Mr. Sanjay Kumar Jha, interacted with the members of the Indian diaspora in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and conveyed India’s principled and resolute stand against terrorism. They briefed the participants on the cross-border terrorism affecting India over the decades, in particular about the dastardly terror attacks in Pahalgam in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. The briefing also covered the context and background of Operation Sindoor and India’s resolute policy of combating terrorism. The diaspora members were encouraged to share the message across communities and platforms. The interaction captured voices of Indian diaspora members, including those from Malaysian Indian Muslim community, who unequivocally condemned cross border terrorist attacks. The delegation paid solemn tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a towering hero of India’s freedom struggle. They also had the honour of meeting INA veteran Mr. S. P. Narayanasamy, who served in the Balak Sena of Netaji’s Indian National Army and thanked him for his unwavering spirit and for standing in solidarity against the menace of terrorism. The delegation interacted with members of the Malaysia-India Heritage Society (MIHS), who presented the delegates with the compendium of the proceedings of the International Conference titled- Malaysia and India: Shared Heritage and Cultural Links.
