NSCBICC organised special Carnatic Vocal Kutcheri, ‘Subha Sankalpa Sangeetham’ by TIC Carnatic Vocal Mr. Sreekumar Ramakrishnan on December 26, 2025 (Friday) at Multipurpose Hall, NSCBICC. Acting Director NSCBICC cum Counsellor (Community Affais, Press & Information), High Commission of India Mr. Naveen Kumar Ramakrishna who attended as the Chief Guest extended his heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Sreekumar, not just for the evening’s performance, but for his ongoing dedication to nurturing the Indian arts and culture besides building vital bridges with local academies / institutions. Sreekumar was supported by an exceptional lineup of artistes like Mr. J. J Prathap Sharma on Mridangam, Ms. Aparna Menon on Tanpura, Mr. Navean Jeyapalan on Ghatam and J. J Shankara Sharma performed Kanjira. The performance demonstrated the intricate beauty of the Ragas and Talams leaving the audience with a deep sense of cultural pride and spiritual tranquility.

High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with Malaysian Association of Traditional Indian Medicine (PEPTIM) observed 10th Ayurveda Day, under the theme “Ayurveda for People and Planet.” The programme highlighted India – Malaysia cooperation in the field of traditional medicine. Dr. Goh Cheng Soon, Director of Traditional and Complementary Medicine Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia, in her keynote address shared her experience of long-standing service in traditional medicine, emphasised ethical practices to be followed by doctors and reflected on the outcomes of 10 bilateral meetings held on the sidelines of the 2nd WHO Global Traditional Medicine Summit held recently in India. Dr. Vivekanand T.S., First Secretary (Commerce), High Commission, addressed the gathering and underscored academic and institutional collaborations in Ayurveda. Ayurveda practitioners delivered expert talks, demonstrations and participated in panel discussions, helping dispel misconceptions related to Ayurveda and highlighting its holistic and sustainable approach to health. The programme also had a special ‘Ayurveda Aahar’ served to the participants to showcase the health benefits of an Ayurvedic diet.

Rangabhyasa is a quarterly programme designed to provide platform for budding artistes especially for the students of NSCBICC and other talented individuals and for promoting Indian classical performing arts. For this edition, the evening featured vocal performances in duet by Ms. Kanya Ravichandran and Ms. Pugalyaa Ravichandran, both advanced level siblings of Carnatic music learning at NSCBICC. They were accompanied by TIC Carnatic Vocal Mr. Sreekumar Ramakrishnan on Mridangam and Ms. Jashvina Mahendran on keyboard. Counsellor (Community Affairs, Press & Information) cum Acting Director of NSCBICC, Mr. Naveen Kumar Ramakrishna delivered his opening remarks and encouraged the performers. The evening was enjoyed by around 50 Carnatic music enthusiasts.

The students were engaged on various aspects relating to their studies in Malaysia as well as their welfare, which was followed by a Q&A session in which Ms. J. Rocheus Sukanya, Counsellor (Political and Education) and Mr. Rajesh Maniyil, First Secretary (Consular, Passport and Visa) answered the students’ questions.

NSCBICC in collaboration with Kumpulan Selendang Perak (Perak State Government’s Dance Troupe) and Greentown Indian Cultural Society Ipoh has launched a 3-month Cultural Outreach Programme wherein every Wednesday from December 2025 to February 2026 the Perak State dancers and musicians will train at NSCBICC. The first class kicked off on December 10, 2025, where enthusiastic students from Perak immersed themselves in Carnatic Vocal Music basics with confidence and also learned the basic fundamental footwork and hand movements of Kathak from the Teachers of Indian Culture. NSCBICC believes that, establishing collaboration with Malaysian Government agencies would foster greater exchange of art and culture between both India – Malaysia. This is also keeping in with the spirit of the Programme of Cooperation in the field of Culture, Arts and Heritage, signed during the visit by Hon’ble Prime Minister of Malaysia YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim to India in August 2024.

High Commissioner of India to Malaysia His Excellency Mr. B. N. Reddy was the Chief Guest at Inaugral Event of Showcasing of Bengali Culture in Malaysia through the Lens of the Iconic Lal Par Saree Walk organised by Roots of Bengal in collaboration with Mokshya Arts, Culture and Heritage Society Negeri Sembilan. Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan also attended this event. In his inaugural address the High Commissioner congratulated the organiser for showcasing this beautiful effort. The inaugural event was the Odissi invocation to Devi Durga, followed by Baul music performances, the Dhunuchi dance, and a unique runway segment where both women and men showcased authentic Bengali attire. As 2026 will be the 150 Years of Vande Mataram, the finale performance was a tribute performance of the ocassion. The highlight of the event was presentation of national recognition in the Malaysian Book of Records for the most number of participants wearing the Lal Par Saree in a single event.

Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan participated as Chief Guest representing High Commission and NSCBICC at the Bridge Academy’s Kalai Sangamam 2025, a signature cultural festival, created to bring together teachers and students from across the globe in a grand celebration of music and dance. This event served as a platform to showcase the artistic achievements of the registered teachers and students through specially curated thematic productions. It featured two elements, ‘Ulaganeedhi’, Carnatic Music Programme and ‘Thiruppugazh – Arupadai Veedu Natya Natakam’, Thematic Bharatanatyam.

 ‘Ulaganathar’s Ulaganeethi’ is a classical Tamil literary work presented in as a thematic Carnatic music production. More than 150 teachers and students from Malaysia participated in this presentation. Around 180 performers with vocalists & Instrumentalists performed the Thiruppugazh – Arupadai Veedu Natya Natakam” is a thematic Bharatanatyam production on the sacred journeys of Lord Muruga across the six holy abodes. This production reflected the spiritual essence and cultural depth of Saint Arunagirinathar’s revered Thiruppugazh.

Director in her remarks congratulated Bridge Academy for organising such mega production besides maintaining the relationship with their alumni all over the world. She wishes this effort to continue and prolong forever.

10th International Gita Mahotsav 2025

Two distinguished delegates represented Malaysia at the prestigious 10th International Gita Mahotsav (IGM) 2025, jointly organised by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India and the State Government of Haryana. Swami Satprakashananda Saraswati, Traditional Hindu Spiritual Learning Centre, Malaysia and Mr. Sivananda, Vedanta Society, Kuala Lumpur were the two delegates who had taken part in the conferences and other relevant activities organised on the occasion of IGM.  This year, the Mahotsav is being hosted across two locations: Kurukshetra, the sacred land of the Bhagavad Gita and Nalanda University. Their participation signifies Malaysia’s continued commitment to promoting inter-civilisational dialogue, spiritual understanding and cultural cooperation with India and the global Hindu community.

The event was inaugurated by H. E. Shri Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble Defence Minister of India, in the presence of senior Ministers from the Haryana State Government, Mrs. Neena Malhotra, Secretary (South), MEA, and several other eminent dignitaries, scholars, and delegates from around the world. All delegates also got a photo opportunity with Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. The active involvement of Malaysia’s spiritual leaders in such an esteemed global platform enriched discussions on Dharma, Karma and the universal teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. This marks a significant moment of pride for Malaysia, as its representatives participated in celebrating the global relevance of the Bhagavad Gita.

As NSCBICC has a strong relationship with The Temple of Fine Arts Kuala Lumpur, Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan expanded the network with a visit to the Temple of Fine Arts Johor during her official visit to Johor, highlighting the cultural exchange, mutual respect and the strengthening of institutional ties. Director was welcomed by Mr. Sivadas, the Chairman of TFA Johor who gave a guided tour of TFA’s facilities, including performance halls, classrooms, and community service areas. Students and faculty showcased short cultural performances, classical dance. In her discussion, director explored future opportunities for collaborative programmes between NSCBICC and TFA during the upcoming ICCR empanelled troupes to Malaysia. This visit opened doors for future partnerships that will enrich the artistic and cultural landscape of Johor Bahru.

The Indian Heritage Centre sits within the 112-year-old Arulmigu Rajamariamman Devasthanam temple grounds and pays homage to the community’s contributions to the development of Johor Baru. It is the culmination of an almost decade-long dream. Mr. Babu from the Management Committee guided Director on the items exhibited at the Centre.

The fourth session of International Gita Mahotsav concluded with the lecture session at Johor on the topic ‘Essence of Bhagavad Gita’, which the discourse was delivered by Shri Vinayji, Founder of Wisdom Foundation. NSCBICC and High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur partnered with Shirdi Sai Baba Society of Malaysia, Johor Bahru to organize this lecture series at Johor to propagate the knowledge and learnings of Bhagavad Gita to public. The discourse focused on Essence of Bhagavad Gita. Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan officiated the programme. Mr. S. Suresh, Chairperson of Shirdi Sai baba Society Malaysia (Johor Branch), Mr. Sivadas from The Temple of Fine Arts, Johor Bahru also attended the event. Over three days, Shri Vinayji, delivered profound discourses on the essence of the Bhagavad Gita to help live a life of selfless duty, balance, and devotion, while realising the eternal nature of the soul and attaining liberation through union with the divine.

This is the first such initiative by NSCBICC to expand collaboration and connections all of the Malaysia. In this discussion, Director gained inputs to find ways to elaborate the collaboration in future. Moreover, Director also encouraged the artists to utilise the facilities available at NSCBICC and use the platform to showcase the best talents based at Johor. Founder and Artistic Director Suvarna Fine Arts, Dr. Ajith Bhaskar has organised this meet up session. The attendees of this gathering were Mr. Suraj (Surya), Teacher at The Temple of Fine Arts, Johor Bahru; Ms Usha Karthikeyan, Dance Guru Vsuryam Arts; Mr. Rajendran, Dance Guru of Nadaraja Natya Alaya Fine Arts and Mrs. Suganya Jegathesan, Vocal Guru Sruthi Laya Ghana Vidyalaya Music Academy along with several senior students of SFA.

High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur and NSCBICC in partnership with Wisdom World Centre, Malaysia organised the second lecture series in conjunction with International Gita Mahotsav (IGM) 2025 from 18 – 20 November 2025 at Multipurpose Hall, NSCBICC. The discourse focused on ‘Bhagavad Gita – The Yoga of Action (Chapter 3B Verses 25 – 43)’.

High Commissioner, H. E. Shri B. N. Reddy attended the lecture series and applauded the efforts taken by High Commission and NSCBICC in propagating the immortal and intangible heritage of Bhagavad Gita. HC thanked Wisdom Foundation for joining hands with High Commission and NSCBICC for making the IGM event a success. His discourses help to promote the teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita across the world and strengthen cultural bonds and foster mutual understanding. HC also expressed his gratitude for the noble actions taken by Wisdom Foundation in spreading the message of unity, peace and harmony globally through Bhagavad Gita.

In this second lecture series at Kuala Lumpur, for the three days, Founder of Wisdom Foundation, Shri Vinayji focused on ‘Bhagavad Gita – The Yoga of Action (Chapter 3B Verses 25 – 43)’. He explained the verses sung by his followers and conveyed how the messages delivered in Bhagavad Gita provides understanding of the deeper psychology of action, desire, discipline and self-mastery.

Besides Kuala Lumpur, IGM event was also organised at Geeta Ashram on November 14, 2025 during the Inaugural of Geeta Jayanti Mahayagna, followed by Lecture Series on ‘Essence of Bhagavad Gita’ at Sri Kunj Bihari Temple, Penang from November 14 – 16, 2025. The fourth event to take place at Johor on the ‘Essence of Bhagavad Gita’ from 21 – 23 November 2025 at Shirdi Sai Baba Centre, Johor Bahru. An exhibition was also organised at all these locations on the verses and key points of Gita.

The second event of International Gita Mahotsav 2025 was organised at Penang. NSCBICC and High Commission of India in partnership with Sri Kunj Bihari Mandir, Penang organised the lecture series on the topic ‘Essence of Bhagavad Gita’. The three-day discourse by Guru Vinayji, a thinker, philosopher, management guru and the founder and managing trustee of Wisdom foundation, Malaysia inspired the public to explore more on the Gita. Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan represented High Commission and NSCBICC in the Gita Lecture series at Penang. Guru Vinay ji in his engaging and thought-provoking discourse, gave a bird’s-eye view of the Gita’s essential concepts, inspiring deeper study, reflection, and practice of its timeless wisdom for both material and spiritual success. This event is one of the series of events being organized all over Malaysia to promote the teachings of Bhagavad Gita under the International Gita Mahotsav 2025.

Rangabhyasa is a quarterly programme designed to provide platform for budding artistes especially for the students of NSCBICC and other talented individuals and for promoting Indian classical performing arts. For this edition, NSCBICC featured its student Ms. Shangita Suvarna Gangaraj, a dedicated Carnatic music student who was accompanied by his Guru Mr. Sreekumar Ramakrishnan (TIC Carnatic Vocal NSCBICC) on Mridangam, besides an ensemble of accomplished musicians: Ms. Jashvina Mahendran on keyboard and Mr. Alagendra Mahendra on violin offered steadfast support.  This initiative was started in May 2024 and has showcased the musical abilities and talents of many NSCBICC students since then.

In this edition, for the first time, the Kathak students were given the opportunity to perform. TIC Kathak Ms. Priyadarshini Sanyal along with her students Mishalene, Krishnan Jegadeeswari, Thamayanthi Devai Sundram, Deivanai Shankar and Suvarrnaa Surendran performed a captivating Kathak dance performance. The evening was enjoyed by around 50 Carnatic music enthusiasts. Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan welcomed the gathering and congratulated the students and their parents for cultivating the spirit of learning Indian cultural art forms.

NSCBICC celebrated the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the legendary freedom fighter and tribal leader of the country as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’. This is a special initiative by the Government of India whom had declared November 15 as a tribute day for Bhagawan Birsa Munda to commemorate the contributions of tribal communities in national history and culture and motivate the coming generations for protecting our cultural heritage and national pride. This year, is the culmination of the 150th Birth Anniversary of the Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

In her remarks, Director NSCBICC, Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan explained the importance of celebrating this occasion with fellow members and projected the legacy of tribal community in the development of India. As part of this homage, TIC Kathak Ms. Priyadarshini Sanyal along with her students presented a special performance, ‘Ulgulan’- ‘the great uprising’. It refers to Bhagawan Birsa Munda Uprising of 1899–1900, a remarkable tribal movement that challenged colonial rule and sought to reclaim dignity, land, identity and freedom for the Adivasi people. Event was attended by Prof. Dr. A. Chellaperumal, ICCR’s Thiruvalluvar Chair, ICCR at Universiti Malaya; Dato’ Dr. R. Kantharao Ackunaidu, President of Malaysia Telugu Foundation and members of NSCBICC.

Geeta Ashram Malaysia in partnership with High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur and NSCBICC organized Geeta Jayanti Mahayagna at Geeta Ashram. The 18 day-long programmes from 14 November to 1 December 2025 is one of several events being held in Malaysia to commemorate the International Gita Mahotsav (IGM) 2025 aimed to promote the teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita across the world. The Government of Haryana in collaboration with Kurukshetra Development Board has taken this initiative to host these celebrations worldwide. Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan represented High Commission and NSCBICC in the inaugural session and in her remarks highlighted the universal teachings of Bhagavad Gita.  In the inaugural session, Ms. Pummy Sharma delivered a lecture on Chapter 1: The Yoga of Despondency of Arjuna. She highlighted that Bhagavad Gita provides a sacred space for self-realisation, guiding individuals to overcome inner conflict and act with clarity, conviction and compassion. Besides Geeta Ashram, NSCBICC is organising IGM lecture series throughout Malaysia at Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Johor to promote the teachings of Bhagavad Gita.

‘Sarbabharatiya Kala Spandan’  Art Exhibition and Cultural Programme

‘Sarbabharatiya Kala Spandan’, a Musical, Art and Dance programme was hosted by Sarbabharatiya Sangeet-O-Sanskriti Parishad, Kolkata. Their art exhibition was inaugurated by Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan who welcomed the troupe to the Indian Cultural Centre and appreciated the efforts taken by the institute to promote the Indian Culture abroad. The Secretary of Sarbabharatiya Sangeet-O-Sanskriti Parishad, Dr. Santanu Sengupta, in his welcome address thanked NSCBICC for facilitating their performances during this three-day long event. On the first day of this event, TIC Kathak Ms. Priyadarshini Sanyal and her students performed Kathak. Being an alumna of the institution, the TIC Kathak was honoured with the title ‘Nritya Gurushree’ for demonstrating commendable artistry and professionalism in promoting Indian Culture and being the pride of the institution.

The art exhibition promoted 20 arts with the theme ‘People’, highlighting the reactions, emotions and colours of people in various art forms. On the second day of the event, a musical duo performance attracted the audiences -Mr. Shankar Patra performed on Tabla with Mr. Debabrata Mondal on violin. This was followed by a special Rabindra Nritya, folk and Kathak dance were performed by Ms. Pampa Ray Biswas, Priyanka Sarkar and Adrija Dev. On the third day a mother – daughter duo, Ms. Jhumur Ghosh and Ms. Daisy Ghosh performed an eye catching Kathak performance.

The event concluded with a stirring rendition ‘Vande Mataram’ on the occasion of 150th anniversary of India’s national song. The Annual Diwali Tarang 2025 celebrations was organised by MOA successfully and received great support from the community members. She congratulated the Committee Members for nurturing the culture and heritage of Odisha abroad. The event featured cultural performances by children and ladies. TIC Kathak, Ms. Priyadarshini Sanyal performed a special Kathak performance. Highlight of the event was a trailer of the documentary on migration of Odia people to Malaya. The documentary has been shot to instil patriotism amongst the Odia diaspora and record the history of the community here in Malaysia.  Ms. Dipti Joshna Principal of Global Indian International School (GIIS) Kuala Lumpur also participated as a guest of honour.

Praveshnolsavam, an annual event by WMF, introduces the mother tongue Malayalam to the children. This programme features students who had completed the classes which are being conducted every year in collaboration with the Government of Kerala to promote the Malayalam Language and culture throughout the world to provide mother tongue learning opportunities to Malayalees around the world. Through this initiative, WMF provides the mother tongue (Malayalam) learning platform to the local and expatriate Malayalee Community with the online mother tongue classes conducted by the teachers from Kerala. In this event, the students who had benefited from these classes showcased their talents. Prof. Dr. Aruna Gopinath inaugurated this event and felicitated students who had passed their examination. Over 100 students, parents and teachers participated in this event.

Radhe! Radhe! – The Sweet Surrender Gala Premiere presented by Kala Kalp Sanskrutik Sansthan, (helmed by dancer/director Dr Atasi Mishra), was staged by Odissi maestro, Padma Shri Ramli Ibrahim along with his troupe, concluding their multi-city India tour with the enchanting production at the 19th Annual Debaprasad Award Celebration of Tridhara. The event was attended by H. E. Dato’ Muzafar Shah Mustafa, High Commissioner of Malaysia to India as the Chief Guest, his wife Datin Najwa Zainal, Senior dance critic Leela Venkataraman and dancer Sharon Lowen, artist Jatin Das, Shri Nirmal Swaraj Ji (Paridhi Art Group), former High Commissioner of India to Malaysia Preet Malik along with Guru Gajendra Panda and Patachitra artist Bibhu Patnaik. The concluding tour performance received great support from art lovers for the Odissi production named “Radhe! Radhe! which is inspired by folk traditions of Ganjam, a district in the eastern Indian state of Odisha. This cultural tour from October 24 – 28 October included the cities of Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, reinforces India-Malaysia cultural interactions. The links between the Malay Peninsula and the Odisha region, once the kingdom of Kalinga, are historic and his Kuala Lumpur-based dance theatre seeks to rekindle them.

Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan participated as Chief Guest in the Digital Launch of the Trailor of Kantha Puranam, An Immersive Mythicon, that brings the 13th century Tamil epic Kantha Puranam to life through the fusion of classical storytelling and modern digital performance. It is being advertised as the world’s first Tamil immersive theatre experience, blending traditional Indian heritage with Malaysian innovation to create a new dimension of stagecraft and cultural expression.

Produced by Mythicon Studios, in collaboration with the Malaysian Performing Arts Society and Thrive Talent Tank, this initiative represents how Indian epics continue to inspire artists across the globe and especially in Malaysia, where Tamil culture and performing arts have succeeded for generations. Moreover, the production will showcase the 64 classical arts (Arupathu Naalu Kalai), instilled as the artistic traditions that originated in India and continue to be preserved and practiced here in Malaysia.

This international standard production was designed in the style of a Broadway musical, brings together more than 150 cast and crew members, combining live performance, music, dance, projection mapping and extended-reality technology. The result is a multi-sensory experience where mythology, movement and imagination unite to transport audiences into a living legend. Director congratulated the team along with the producer Mr. Anil Shatrian for the tremendous efforts taken in taking this innovative step in showcasing of our ancient Indian epic through immersive metaverse technology and showcasing the same to the young generations.

The event showcased Sanskrit chants with bhajans set to contemporary music to give a devotional-musical experience blending meditation, wisdom teachings, and musical elements in a spiritually uplifting format. The event was an inspiring evening filled with beautiful music, peaceful meditation, and thoughtful sharing of wisdom. It created a calm and relaxing space where everyone could pause, reflect, and feel a sense of inner peace and balance. The event was attended by several prominent members of public along with around 100 members of Art of Living.

Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan represented High Commission and NSCBICC as guest of honour at a Bollywood concert with the timeless raag-based gems of Bollywood’s golden era sung by Mr. Rakesh Sood, who received basic training in light Indian classical music in his childhood and was later mentored by a maestro of retro music. The singer is rediscovering and sharing his musical passion in his golden years and entertained the audience of 80 with nostalgic melodies originally sung by legends like Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, and Kishore Kumar, and composed by some of the greatest music directors in Indian cinema. He was accompanied by Dhiren Raichura on guitar who is an accomplished artist who regularly collaborates with leading names in the Indian music industry and Jyotsna Nityananda on piano who is a respected composer, educator, and performer whose musical sensitivity added depth to every note.

It was a three-day event showcasing solo performances of local dancers Anagha Laxmi, Imran Syafiq and several others. It also featured talks by notable experts in the field of music and dance like Prof. Dr. Joseph Gonzales, Dr. Sivabalan and Ms. Suganya Jegathesan.

H. E. Mr. B. N. Reddy was the Guest of Honour along with YB Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications, Government of Malaysia at the Radhe Radhe’ Gala Premiere, a new Odissi production presented by Sutra Foundation in association with Tridhara, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Director NSCBICC, Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan also attended the premiere. This production was partly sponsored by the High Commission of India. The production is inspired by the traditional folk form of Ganjam, South India, Radha Prema Leela, Ganjam district of South Odisha and celebrated the cultural synergy between Malaysia and India. It is inspired by the folk form of Radha Prema Leela from South Odisha that considers the Hladini Shakti (Joy & Happiness), an integral part of Krishna’s personality. The production also drew inspiration from Patachitra, the indigenous painting tradition of South Odisha. Guru Gajendra Panda and Padma Shri Datuk Ramli Ibrahim have been following the track of their mentors, the late Guru Debaprasad Das and scholar/painter Dr. Dinanath Pathy, who frequently advised both Guru Gajendra and Datuk Ramli to keep their classical innovations connected with the earthy energy of the folk traditions.

NSCBICC celebrated Gandhi Jayanti commemorating the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who devoted his life to the pursuit of truth (Satya), nonviolence (Ahimsa) and justice for all. The event commenced with shradhanjali; offering flowers to Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait followed by welcome address by Ms. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan, Director of NSCBICC, setting the tone for an evening of reflection and cultural expression. This was followed by singing of Gandhiji’s favourite songs like ‘Hari Tum Haro, Ekla chalo Re, Shanta Ahimsa, Bharata Samrajya, Payoji maine, Raghupati Raghava etc. by the TIC Carnatic Vocal, Mr. Sreekumar Ramakrishnan and his students: Mr. Ravi Maniam, Jashwina Mahendran, Sai Mithiksha, Paridhi Yadav. There were also a thought-provoking talk and poetry by the father – son duo, Mr. Chirag Chugh and Master Rajas Chugh who spoke on what Gandhi envisioned for India and how the progress of country is during the current times. The talented young students from Mindlabs Education Kuala Lumpur also participated by presenting short speeches on ‘The life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhiji’ in Hindi, Tamil and English language followed by a dance performance by young tots on ‘Desh Rangila’; a celebratory patriotic song about the beauty and colours of India, featuring lyrics that describe the vibrant sights of the country. The grand finale was a Kathak dance performance presented by the TIC Kathak, Ms. Priyadarshini Sanyal on Gandhi’s favourite bhajan, ‘Vaishnava Janatho’. A special felicitation was done of the winners of essay and painting competition for school students on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Event was attended by Ms. J. Rocheus Sukanya, Counsellor (Political & Education) of High Commission; Ms. Manjula Devi, Principal Mindlabs Education, teachers, parents, students and members of NSCBICC. It was a memorable tribute to the legacy of the Father of the Nation, echoing his values of peace, creativity and unity.
