‘The Role of Indian Diaspora in India’s Freedom Struggle’ Interaction Session

The interaction was an initiative of GOPIO and Indian Council for International Cooperation (AntharRasthriyaSahayog Parshad) to reach out to the Malaysian PIOs through the various Indian based NGOs. A total of 12 members delegation from ARSP including researchers from Singapore and Thailand were present for the interaction.The interaction forum was inaugurated by Ms Amrita Dash, Counsellor (Community Affairs & Labour). The following were the members of the panel session moderated by A RavendiranArjunan, Programme Coordinator, Mr. Prabhakaran Nair, President, Malaysia – India Heritage Society, Mr Ratha Krishnan, President Netaji Welfare Foundation, Prof Gopal Arora, Secretary, ARSP, Prof SophanaSrichampa, Chair, Centre for Bharat Studies, Mahidol University, Thailand and Dr Rajesh Rai, Head of South Asian Studies, National University of Singapore.The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof Datuk Dr Danny Wong Tze Ken was present and in his remarked he said it is a good initiative and looking forward to working together. The legacy of the contribution of the Indian Diaspora towards the freedom struggle of India has to be passed on the younger generation to ensure the sacrifices made by the forefathers are preserved at all times.

The Kannada Kali School Annual Day, an event marked a significant milestone in the journey of promoting Kannada language and culture among expatriate children in Malaysia. Mr. Rajesh H Maniyill, First Secretary of Consular, Visa, and Passport attended the event. Kannada Kali Malaysia embarked on a mission to impart Kannada, the language of Karnataka, India, to expatriate children residing in Malaysia. The event saw an impressive turnout of nearly 80 attendees, including students, parents, and well-wishers, all gathering to celebrate our collective commitment to linguistic and cultural preservation. The program featured a plethora of performances, presentations, and interactive sessions, showcasing the diverse talents and achievements of our students. The proceedings commenced with the rendition of Naadageethe, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The talented students captivated the audience with fancy dress and mono acting performances depicting Kannada historical and renowned personalities.

Eminent dance gurus, students of dance, rasikas and cultural afficionados participated. Deputy High Commissioner Smt. Subhashini Narayanan participated.

Mission celebrated International Women’s Day. Hon’ble Justice Tan Sri Datuk NalliniPathmanathan, Federal Court Judge, graced the occasion as the chief guest and delivered the keynote address. High Commissioner of India H.E. B.N. Reddy presided over the event. Ms. Mary ShanthiDairiam, Dr.Kirenjit Kaur Sidhu, Dato’ BindiRajasegaran, Prof Dr ArunaGopinath, Ms TharanyaArumugam, Ms Tan Mei Mei, who have excelled in various fields including social service, medicine, fine arts, journalism etc joined the event as special invitees and were felicitated on the occasion. The event was attended by over 200 guests, which included members of various women’s aid organisations, leaders of various community organizations, business and cultural associations in Malaysia, academicians, teachers and students from Schools in Kuala Lumpur, and members of media. On this occasion, an art exhibition by Ms Aparna and Ms Anushree was organised, which was a fusion of landscaping, mandala art, nature, and portraits within painting showcasing the immense creativity, depth, and diversity of artistic expression. High Commissioner H.E B.N. Reddy and Chief Guest, Hon’ble Justice Tan Sri Datuk NalliniPathmanathan launched the Yoga book “Breathe Bend Be” written by Ms Shailaja Menon. Mission proudly joined the launch of theChalo India Global Diaspora Campaign by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with members of Indian diaspora in Malaysia at an special live cast event. High Commissioner H.E B.N. Reddy welcomed the leaders of Malaysian Indian diaspora and encouraged them to participate in theChaloIndia campaign and reminded them of the Prime Minister’s clarion call to encourage at least 5 non-Indian friends to travel to India. DatoPardipKukreja, President Tara Foundation, Mr Prabhakaran Nair, Malaysia India Heritage Society, Dato’ A. Aruldas, President, Malaysian Indian Tour and Travel Association (MITTA) and Mr N Murali, President, Bharat Club spoke on the occasion. About 100 members of Indian diaspora joined the event. HC congratulated DatoPradipKukreja, for leading a 10-member team on Malaysia-Bharat Friendship Expedition, from tomorrow, covering 22 destinations in India over next 35 days. This becomes the first group from Malaysia visiting India coinciding with Chalo IndiaGlobal Diaspora Campaign. Launch of Chalo India-Global Diaspora Campaign: Become Incredible India’s Brand Ambassador. Chalo India campaign is an opportunity for IndianDiaspora in Malaysia to strengthen India-Malaysia people to people ties with each Indian diaspora member inviting their five foreign friends to visit India and experience its splendour.

8th YTTC Valedictory Ceremony

The 8th Yoga Teacher Training Course (YTTC) Valedictory Ceremony was successfully organised for 22 students who had completed the course for 12 weeks with 36 hours. Course was conducted by TIC Yoga, Shri Sandeep Wankhade. The participants shared the joy of embracing Yoga for holistic health and wellness. Deputy High Commissioner Ms. Subhashini Narayanan addressed the participants and distributed course completion certificates. Yoga master Mr. Manoj Kaimal, Founder of Manasa Yoga participated and commented on the exams that they attended. Yoga Teacher Shri Sandeep Wankhede presented the 8th YTTC report. Highlight of the event was the students performed a stage performance complying with Yoga Asanas.

A talk and performance showcase event presenting the daughter of Late Guru Debaprasad Das, NartakiBipanchi Das from Orissa who is also an esteemed Odissi exponent. Late Guru Debaprasad Das is among the four Gurus of the Indian Classical dance form of the first generation. Performance by and her student KhirabdhiTanaya Rout. The first session was a talk on Late Guru Debaprasad Das and Odissi moderated by Associate Prof.Dr. Padma Pillai from Sunway University. Along with NartakiBipanchi Das, NrutyaCharya Lawrence Sackris, ArtistisDicrector of Angika Fine Arts joined as the panellist. Followed by performance by NartakiBipanchi Das and her student.

Briefing, Promotion and Registration for Traditional & Complementary Medicine License for Practitioner

PEPTIM an association that represents the practitioners of Traditional Indian Medicine in Malaysia organised a briefing, promotion and registration for Traditional & Complementary Medicine License for Practitioner. The objective of this event was organised to promote and create awareness on the existence of Act that protect practitioners of traditional and complementary medicine and ensuring them to get register.
Under the Traditional & Complementary Medicine (T&CM) 2016 (Act 775), it is mandatory for all practitioners of traditional and complementary medicine (T&CM) who wish to practice in Malaysia to register with the T&CM Council established under this Act. Most of the practitioners didn’t register due lack of awareness. PEPTIM had taken this initiative to promote and brief the T&CM to the public, providing awareness on this and made them registered. Event was attended by Counsellor (Commerce and Education Wing) Ms. C. Sushma.

Deputy High Commissioner Ms. Subhashini Narayanan addressed the audience and read Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi’s message on the occasion of World Hindi Day.On this occasion, students from several schools of Kuala Lumpur including Vikas International School, Tanarata International School, Valley International School, and Global Indian International School participated in Hindi handwriting competition and Hindi poetry competition and won prizes.Children of Bharat Club Kuala Lumpur also participated in these events.MarwadiYuvaManch organised Antakshari of Hindi words as well as songs for audience. The Musical celebrated the theme of Bhakti (devotion) in India spanning 1000 years, featuring excellent performances of Indian classical devotional music by Ms. Vani Nethiar and Team and innovative use of puppetry by Ms. Deepa Rajendra& Team’s puppetry in a story-like format. The Musical was well received by discerning audiences in Malaysia.
