A Lecture Demonstration on Bharatanatyam by Padmabushan Smt Saroja Vaidyanathan at NSCBICC Multipurpose Hall at 7.30 p.m.

About the Artist :  Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan has been one of India’s prominent Bharatanatyam exponents, earning her fame as an intelligent dancer, guru, choreographer and author. She received  her training under the accomplished Guru Lalitha of Saraswati Gana Nilayam, Chennai  and is the third generation disciple of the famous Guru Kattumannar Tanjavur Muthukumaran Pillai. In a career spanning more than six decades, Guru Saroja has been conferred with innumerable awards and titles.

Saturday, 11th May, 2013 : An evening of Sitar recital titled “Swara Dhwani” - a  classical Hindustani repertoire by Ms Kalpana Paranjothy from Temple of Fine Arts, Kuala Lumpur and accompanied on Tabla by Mr Prakash Kandasamy, at NSCBICC Multipurpose Hall at 7.30 p.m.

About Ms Kalpana:

Kalpana Paranjothy is an accomplished Hindustani Sitar player who began learning Indian music when she was eight years old, under the tutelage of Dr Subramony at the Temple of Fine Arts, Kuala Lumpur and to further her music education under the guidance of Ustad Usman Khan in the traditional “Gurukul” style. Kalpana has participated in orchestral ensembles such as Krishnaarpanam, Naad Brahma, Sivan Paamalai and Karnatic Beats.  She has also performed with the National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia

About Neha Muthiyan:

Neha Muthiyan is a professional kathak dancer from Pune, India. She has completed her graduation in Interior designing. She has done her masters in Kathak and is Nrityalankar from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. She has performed, as a part of the performing unit of her guru, Mrs.Shambhavi Dandekar, in eminent festivals such as Pune festival, Shaniwarwada festival, Mudra festival organised by NCPA, Mumbai and many more in as well as outside of Pune.

Mr. Mohsin Ali Khan is a renowned Hindustani Sitar Artist & belongs to a very famous Bhindi Bazar Muradabad Gharana. He has also received training in Hindustani Vocal Music & Tabla. He is an ‘A Grade’ Artist of the All India Radio and has performed in prestigious Music Festivals in India and abroad.

Tagore Celebrations 2011/2012 - May, 2011

11th to 15th May 2011: The Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur would be celebrating 150 Birth Anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore in the first half of May 2011. A number of cultural events would be organized at Kuala Lumpur and Penang in Malaysia, including Exhibitions, Cultural performances, Reading Sessions, etc. On this occasion, the following prominent cultural events are being organized in Penang.

1st to 13th March 2011 : Visit of Dr. H.M. Chandola, Professor (Ayurveda), Gujarat Ayurveda University to the NSCBICC, KL. Besides having a number of meetings with Government Officials and Medical Practitioners in Malaysia, Dr. Chandola also gave Consultation and Medical Advice to the general public. A Workshop on Ayurveda was also organized at the NSCBICC on 13th March 2011, where he spoke on ‘Psychosomatic Medicine in Ayurveda’. Dr. Prasanth .VS, also presented his talk on ‘Yoga & Diabetes’ during the Workshop.

15th Jan 2011 : “Grants – in-Aid Presentation Ceremony” which also included a cultural performance by Five Malaysian Cultural Organizations. The Grants have been given to those cultural organizations which are doing outstanding work in promoting Indian Art and Culture in Malaysia.

12th Jan 2011: Inauguration of an exhibition “Kalpana : Masterpieces of Figurative Indian Contemporary Paintings”, showcasing works (re-prints) of 14 best known painters from India at the NSCBICC at 7.30pm. The exhibition is curated by Anjolie Ela Menon and will be on display at the NSCBICC until 12th Feb 2011. There will also be screening of documentaries on paintings of India at the NSCBICC every Tuesday and Saturday at 3pm till the exhibition is on.

9th Nov 2010 : A motivational talk by Dr. Kiran Bedi, a retired Indian Police Service Officer and a Social Activist, at the NSCBICC at 7.30 pm.

28th October, 2010: The official visit of His Excellency Dr.Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India and Mrs. Gursharan Kaur to Malaysia from 26-28th October, 2010 included a visit by Mrs. Gursharan Kaur to the Temple of Fine Arts, on 28th October, 2010 wherein she presented musical instruments, sent by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi, to the President, Temple of Fine Arts, Kuala Lumpur. The Temple of Fine Arts (TFA) had organized an event on its premises at Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur in honour of Mrs. Gursharan Kaur on the morning of 28th October, 2010.

Mrs.Gursharan Kaur, in her brief speech, conveyed her appreciation on the remarkable efforts made to establish and nurture an Institution like the Temple Of Fine Arts which, in spite of the challenges in today’s world strives to preserve and propagate India’s great culture and civilization, far from the shores of India. She hoped that the children learning Indian classical music and dance at the TFA would serve as cultural ambassadors between India and Malaysia for generations to come, and assured her support to them. Mrs.Gursharan Kaur also presented a symbolic musical instruments to the TFA President, Mr. Kanagasivam who thanked her and reciprocated by presenting her with a memento.
